Malana The Oldest Small Democracy

The oldest democracy in this part of the country is still alive in this village of Malana as a continuation of the mediaeval small democracy. The population is nearly one thousand and the houses are the typical example of hill architecture - combination of dry masonry  and wooden architecture. The size of the houses may be small but the hearts of the people are large and hospitable. The background of the high hills all round gives it a halo of its own. There are many foreign research scholars who come here braving the difficult terrain and deep ascent in search of the remnants of the old democracy by way of social anthropology and polity.
