About Birbal Sharma

       Born on 5th March 1956 at village Musalan-kalan, Harsar in Hamirpur Distt of H.P in modest family. He entered into professional photography since 1972 and established his own studio (Birbal Studio College road Mandi) in 1982. After coming into contact with Dr. Vidya Chand Thakur, District language officer Mandi and an exponent of the Archaeology, Culture and Heritage Sharma took over an added his responsibility under the aeigis of Puratatva Chetna Sungh to create awareness among people for the conservation of ancient cultural heritage and environmental beauty of the nature, and turned his camera to document, the various aspects of the archaeological and cultural heritage of the people of H.P. and create an awareness for its preservation through his retrained resources, Thus Dr. V.C. Thakur, acting as a mentor, guide and associate into hazardous excursions into the interiors of Himalayan ranges also has a remarkable contribution in this work, which need a specific mention.
The work of Birbal Sharma has been widely appreciated by the thousands of people visting Gallery at Mandi. The works has earned 1st and 2nd positions in 1982 and 1983 in Photo exbitions organized by the Directorate of Language and cultural Affairs, Govt. of H.P The display of his classified Photographs were also arranged as Gandhi Bhawan, Mandi in January 1988, Jan 1991 Y.W.C.A Hall Shimla June 1988. His photographs had the rare distinction to find room in Photo Exmigtions organized by Rashtriye Latit Kala Academy Delhi. The awards and honors have came all the way to Birbal Sharma, Who was comferred Himachal kesari award in April 1991 Himachal Journalist association honored him in January 1993 at Shimla. Mandavya kala Munch bestowed, lok Sewa Samman in 1991 and Mandi Shivaratri Fair Committee adjudged him as an outstanding photographer of the area in 1992. Shri Sharma claims that he has more then 50,000 such photographs on varied subjects in the archives of photo gallery. A world with the photographer revealed that need to established the photo gallery arose do to the huge expenditure involved in organizing of photo exhibition in at different places in the state. He has to mobilize financial resources by way of selling some of landed properties video cameras etc. He says that he a treasure house of antiques and photographs but have little space to exhibit the same even in his Himachal Darshan Photo gallery.
